Keeping your skin soft, supple and young looking is a matter of taking care of your skin from both the inside and outside. You’ll want to make note of your current skin conditions, skin care habits and make changes to dietary needs, understand your skin type and choose the right skin care products that work for you.

Step One

Getting the Glow - Part of being a young woman is having naturally glowing, radiant and soft skin. Work to keep these qualities in your skin by drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water a day to help your body flush out toxins that build up through poor dietary choices and stress. Do some sort of oxygenating exercise everyday even if its just being active in a garden, going for a slower paced walk over a longer period of time than normal or just taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The more you exercise, the tighter and more tone your skin will appear and the more you'll have a natural "flush" to your cheeks. When you exercise outside, wearing sunscreen, you can still get a natural looking tan to the skin.

Step Two

Acne - As a young woman, your body will experience many fluctuating hormonal changes over time which can increase acne. Stress and diet also play a role in forming acne. Do not pop, pluck or squeeze the spots of acne on your face. This can lead to infection and further inflammation of the skin. When done on a regular basis, it can cause scaring. Instead, focus on getting the proper amounts of sleep, eating a well balanced healthy diet and avoid touching your face. Wash your face at night with a cream-based cleanser, not soap. Rinse your face in the morning with warm water. If you experience especially heavy acne, consult with a dermatologist.

Step Three

Moisturizers - Moisturizers come both with and without an SPF rating. You should always use a moisturize with a built-in SPF rating to protect your youthful skin from the damaging effects of the suns rays. Skin types come in different types and your skin type may change during different seasons of the year. Oily skin has a natural shine around your forehead, nose and chin areas. Dry skin is evident with full, tight and possibly itchy patches of skin. Combination skin types have both oily and dry patches in different parts of the face. Choose moisturizers that are labeled specifically for your skin type and understand you may need a different type of moisturize in the winter when many young women experience drier than normal skin.
