Home security is essential. There are expensive alarm systems that you can install on your doors and windows; there is a number of systems and options for you to choose from. Many burglaries occur with simple entry through the homeowner’s garage. This problem can easily be solved by installing a lock on your garage door.
Step One
Installing a Key Garage Door Lock – Screw the garage door deadbolt linkage into both side rail tracks on the sides of your garage door. Connect it approximately 3 to 4 feet off the ground and make sure the deadbolt can slide into a side rail slot to lock the door down.
Step Two
Connect the long steel wires to each deadbolt linkage on each side of the garage door. The wires should reach the center of your garage door (around 3 to 4 feet off the ground).
Step Three
Drill a hole in the center of your garage door at the height you mounted the side deadbolts.
Step Four
Fit the key-operated door handle through the hole in the center of the garage door with the handle on the outside of your garage door. Screw the inside fastener onto the handle stem on the inside of the garage door.
Step Five
Connect the deadbolt wire linkage to the door handle eyelets on the inside of the garage.
Step Six
Turn the handle on the outside to make sure the wires pull the deadbolts out of the rail slots; also make sure the key works on the handle and locks the deadbolts in their slots.
Step Seven
Installing an Auto Garage Door Lock – Screw the auto garage lock onto the side garage door rail.
Step Eight
String the cord from the auto-timer lock along your garage door and wire-staple it to the wall. Plug the cord into an input port on your current garage door opener.
Step Nine
Set the timer on the auto lock.
Step Ten
Close your garage door and once the timer is tripped after the door closes, the timer will count down from its set time and slide the deadbolt into the side garage door rail. The cord connected to the garage door opener will trip the auto lock to unlock when you press the garage door open button once you arrive home.
