Fountains provide beauty and natural sounds to a garden or outdoor room. There are many different ways to build and design a garden fountain. Most garden fountains are integrated into the existing landscape plan for the property. One of the largest issues with any fountain is getting power to it, as some fountains can be located as much as 300 feet from the house. Most electricians will either run conduit or bury electrical wire to solve this problem.
Step One
Shut off the electrical power to the electrical junction box that will be used to provide power to the fountain. This circuit should be shut off at the main power panel.
Step Two
Bury UFB electrical cable from the electrical junction box at the house to the electrical junction box at the fountain. UFB electrical cable is waterproof and is used in wet environments such as outdoors. This cable should be buried a minimum of 18 inches.
Step Three
Connect the black wire of the fountain pump to the black wire of the UFB cable at the fountain electrical box. Connect the white wire of the fountain pump to the white wire of the UFB cable. Connect all ground wires in the electrical box and cover all splices with plastic twist caps.
Step Four
Submerge the pump, making sure the water intake is completely submerged. At the house junction box, connect the black wire of the buried wire to the existing black wire splice in the house junction box. Connect the white wire to the white wire splice.
Step Five
Turn the power back on and test the fountain's operation.
