Patios and walkways that are made of paving stones offer a number of advantages. Ease of installation, cost and attractiveness are just a few. Another significant positive characteristic is that repairs can be made easily by replacing individual damaged stones, rather than the entire area. First, you’ll have to learn how to remove a paver stone from a completed patio or walkway.

Step One

Get a wire clothes hanger and untwist it so that you have one piece of wire. Use a pair of wire cutters and cut two pieces of approximately 8-inch wires. Avoid using the area of the wire that was wrapped around the neck of the hanger.

Step Two

Use the pliers to straighten each piece of wire, then bend the bottom 1 inch of each wire piece out at a 90-degree angle.

Step Three

Hold one wire in each hand with the bent end facing the stone you wish to lift; the bent ends should run parallel with the edges of the stone. Work the bent sides of the wire into the sand borders on the sides of the stone, far enough so that they are lower than the bottom of the stone.

Step Four

Twist the wires so that the bent ends rotate 90 degrees and are directly under the stone.

Step Five

Pull up on the wires and the stone will come right up.
