How to replace filters in range hoods

A range hood provides a few functions in the kitchen area above the stove. A handy light to illuminate the stove top is built into most range hoods. The hood itself protects the upper cabinets from heat damage. Steam and cooking odors from the stove top are sucked into the range hood’s filtering system and either recirculated into the kitchen or conducted outside. Most range hoods have a replaceable filter element.

Step One

Twist Retaining Clip - Locate the filter element on the underside of the range hood. Twist the retainer clip that secures the front of the filter to the underside of the hood 90 degrees in either direction.

Step Two

Lower the front of the filter from the hood slightly. Pull the filter out to release it from the two slots at the rear of the hood.

Step Three

Push the rear edge of the replacement filter into the two slots at the rear of the underside of the hood.

Step Four

Raise the front of the filter up so that it is up flush against the underside of the hood. Rotate the clip 90 degrees so that the lip on the retainer holds the front of the filter in place.

Step Five

Spring-Loaded Retainer - Locate the filter element on the underside of the range hood. Grasp the plastic tab on the front of the filter. Pull the tab toward the back side of the range hood.

Step Six

Rotate the front edge of the filter down and away from the hood. Slide the filter forward and out of the rear slot on the hood. Remove the filter.

Step Seven

Position the replacement filter so that the tab is facing down and at the front of the hood. Push the rear edge of the filter into the slot at the rear of the hood.

Step Eight

Grasp the tab and pull it toward the rear of the hood. Push the front of the filter up until it is flush with the underside of the hood, then release the tab.
