Baking a cake or cookies on a metal pan in your microwave might sound crazy but this is a viable option when you have a convection microwave. These appliances have different settings to work as a standard microwave or a convection oven. Convection baking works by circulating heat around the food to ensure even cooking. You may need to experiment with your favorite recipes’ baking times and temperatures and modify them for your convection microwave.
Place the turntable or grill rack that came with your convection microwave inside the microwave. This will raise the baking pan and help the baked goods cook evenly.
Grease and prepare your pans as you would for baking in a regular oven. Pour the batter into the pan or arrange dough on a baking pan for cookies and rolls.
Press the "Convection" button on the front of your convection microwave. This is extremely important because if you accidentally place a metal pan inside the microwave on the standard microwave setting, you could damage the appliance.
Set the baking temperature of the convection microwave using the keypad and press the "Start" button. You will hear the fan of the convection oven begin working as the machine preheats.
Wait for the convection microwave to signal that it has reached the appropriate temperature. Open the door and insert the prepared and filled pan.
Close the door and use the keypad to set the bake time. Press "Start" again to begin baking.
Remove the pan from the convection microwave with potholders when the baked goods are done.
