Repair a small hole in a waterproof jacket simply with this ‘how to’ guide. Covering a small hole with a self-adhesive waterproof patch, made of ripstop tape, is faster than sewing a patch over the hole. Ripstop tape is available in stores that sell outdoors equipment because it is the same waterproof tape often used by campers for tent repairs. Ripstop tape comes in a variety of colors, so look for the color that is the closest to the color of your jacket.
4 f the patch begins to peel after the jacket has been worn a few times, sew around the edges of the patch with a sewing machine to make a zigzag stitch for a basic seam finish. You may spray the needle with silicone to make it easier to sew through the adhesive. Coat the zigzag seam with seam sealer or waterproof spray or else the seam will leak.
Measure the size of the hole with the ruler. Add 1 inch extra in diameter. This is the size you will be making the patch.
