A door lock that has become sticky, due to exposure to weather elements or it’s just not been used in a long time, can be very frustrating. Follow the suggestions in the steps below to learn how to fix that sticky lock without calling a locksmith.
Purchase graphite powder at a home improvement store or hardware store. It comes in a small tube that has a thin pointed tip.
Snip off the end of the graphite powder tube. Aim the tube away from you as you snip it, so that the graphite powder doesn’t get into your eyes or on your clothes.
Insert the tip of the graphite powder tube directly into the key slot of the lock. Squeeze the tube gently to blow the powder into the lock.
Put the tip of the tube into the side of the lock, in any crack or small openings that it will fit. Squeeze the tube to blow the powder into the side of the lock.
Use your door lock key to work the lock back and forth until it begins to lock and unlock more easily.
