Making a bed may not seem like a necessary survival skill, but in the wild, a raised bed is necessary for your health and well-being. You want to get the rest you need and stay safe while sleeping. Follow these guidelines to safely bed down in the wild.
Step One
Gather long logs together, and place them side by side on the ground where you plan to sleep. This will form the base of your bed. It keeps you away from insects and animals, and off the cold ground.
Step Two
Drive stakes into the ground on the sides of the bed to keep them together and still. You can make stakes by sharpening one end of sticks so that they can be hammered easily into the earth.
Step Three
Add thick layers of grass on top of the logs to help soften the bed. Even though you are using survival techniques, you still want to be as comfortable as possible.
Step Four
Pile on layers of small twigs and branches, leaves, and dense foliage to create air space. You want a soft padding on top of the logs to sleep comfortably.
Step Five
Make a pillow from thick handfuls of grass to complete your wilderness bed. Survival has never been easier!
