Keeping leaves out of an outdoor fish pond can be important. When leaves get into the pool, they alter the quality of the water and deplete the amount of oxygen. If the water becomes toxic, it can harm or even kill the fish. You have several options for keeping leaves from falling into your pond, the most popular of which is to install netting. Netting has the added bonus of keeping the fish in the pond and possible predators out.
Select appropriate netting for the fish pond. Consider the size of the net needed to cover the pond, and the size of the mesh in the netting. According to Aquatics Unlimited, the appropriate netting will have a mesh no larger than one-half of an inch, and three-eights of an inch is even more desirable. Purchase netting with the desired mesh as well as stakes to secure the netting.
