Closed-circuit television is a security system that uses a camera to monitor a specified area. The camera is directly hooked up to a security DVR, which records the video signal. A security DVR is slightly different from the DVR you use on a home-entertainment system. Security DVRs record all video signals running into the device, with a reduced frame rate. This allows the DVR to increase its recording time.

Step One

Mount the CCTV camera in any location you want to record. The actual mounting process is going to vary, depending on the camera you are using. Check its user manual for proper installation.

Step Two

Attach the coaxial cable into the "Out" port on the rear of the CCTV camera, then insert the free end into one of the "In" ports on the security DVR. Most security DVRs have multiple connection ports. This allows you to record several video camera feeds at the same time.

Step Three

Repeat the connection process with all of the CCTV security cameras.

Step Four

Insert another coaxial cable into the "Out" port on the security DVR, then plug the opposite end into the "In" port on the TV monitor.

Step Five

Turn on the security DVR and the monitor. The live video feed appears on the television screen, while the DVR records the information.
