A cookie is a piece of data that a website uses to identify your computer and tell it apart from others that are logged on to its servers. Though they don’t directly threaten your computer’s security, they can be used to gather information about your surfing habits. Because of this, it’s a good idea to delete them every once in a while.

Open the Control Panel. You can do this by opening the Start Menu, then clicking on the Control Panel link next to the Programs Menu.

Open the Internet Options panel by double-clicking its icon on the Control Panel. If you're using Internet Explorer, you can also open Internet Options through the Tools menu in the Menu Bar.

Look under the General settings tab for the section labeled "Browsing history." Once you've found it, click on "Delete..."

Click on the button labeled "Delete Cookies..."

Say "Yes" when Windows asks you if you're sure that you want to delete all the cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Close the Internet Options panel by clicking on the "OK" at the bottom of the window.
