It is important to lay drainage outside to get rid of stormwater. Allowing stormwater to accrue on your property can create a stench. Insects may gather, and you risk erosion and water making its way into your house. A plastic drainage pipe is something you can install yourself. The best type of plastic pipe to use is the SDR-35 pipe. Before you begin to install your pipe, check with your township for any local ordinances that discourage property owners from draining stormwater.
Step One
Call your township, and find out if there are any ordinances relating to stormwater drainage.
Step Two
Dig a trench about 14 inches deep where you plan to lay the pipe.
Step Three
Connect the pipe to the area where stormwater collects. For example, if the water is coming from the gutters, use the PVC cement to connect the pipe to the gutters.
Step Four
Place the remainder of the plastic pipe into the trench, and make sure it directed away from the property, draining the water at least six to eight feet away from the home.
