Unlike previous generations of iPods, the iPod Touch contains an email program. You can check, compose and send email as you are listening to music or surfing the Internet. Sync the email accounts you use on your computer to your iPod touch or add a new email account to use on your iPod.
Step One
Set up your iPod touch to sync by attaching the wide end of the USB cable into the dock at the bottom of your iPod. Insert the smaller end into a USB port on your computer. The keyboard ports on a desktop computer do not have enough power to sustain syncing, so use one of the ports on the computer itself.
Step Two
Open iTunes and wait for your iPod to be recognized. Go to the "Info" tab at the top of the summary screen that appears.
Step Three
Choose the type of email account you want to sync from the list of options. Refer to your iPod touch user manual to find out which mail programs are compatible with your iPod. Click on "Sync."
Step Four
Get a free email account to use with your iPod touch if you do not have an email account through your Internet Service Provide (ISP). Both Yahoo! and Google Mail (Gmail) offer free email accounts that can be used with the iPod touch (see Resources below). Go to "Settings," "Mail" and "Account" to add an email address from Yahoo! or Gmail directly to your iPod touch.
