Following pressure from the Government, the main network providers have agreed to scrap phone unlocking charges for pay monthly customers who are outside of their minimum contract term.
It is estimated that unlocking charges cost consumers an eye watering £48 million a year so this is very welcome news. However, as this only applies to pay monthly customers, if you are a Pay as you go customer (or if you unlock your phone before the minimum contract term ends), it will still cost you to unlock.
