So you’ve defeated the first four Pokémon Gym leaders in Pokémon X or Y but you’re a little stuck on one of the final four. Well hopefully I should be able to help you in the second part of my helpful tips on defeating the Pokémon X/Y Gym Leaders.
By now you’re fairly deep into the game, you’ve learned about Mega Evolution, and now you’re off exploring more of the Kalos Region. So let’s revisit, or take a new look at the final four Pokémon Gym Leaders.
Gym #5: Lumiose City
Lumiose City is found at the core of the Kalos Region, you’ve probably been there once or twice by now but this time you’re there to kick some butts. More specifically, Gym Leader Clemont. Clemont specialises in Electric-type Pokémon. If your listened to your mother or science teachers when you were younger, common sense would tell you that adding Water to Electricity would end up in nothing but disaster. The same goes for Pokémon.
If you’ve got any Water Type Pokémon in your team head to a Pokémon Center and swap them out now. What you’ll need is Ground Type, they’re the only Pokémon that have any real effect on Electric Type Pokémon. Lucky for you Route 13 is absolutely chocked full of Ground Type Pokémon such as Dugtrio, Trapinch, and Graveler.
Gym #6: Laverre City
By this time you should have a PC full to the brim of various Pokémon as well as a pretty buff Starter Pokémon. If not, what the hell have you been doing? Anyway, after you defeat the Gym Leader in Lumiose City you’ll continue your Pokémon journey. Eventually you’ll reach Laverre City that’s home to Pokémon Gym Leader, Valerie.
Valerie is the first trainer, ever, to specialise in Fairy Type Pokémon a brand new Pokémon type introduced into this very game! Fairy Type are the only type that are super effective against Dark Type Pokémon. They’re weaknesses are Poison and Steel Type Pokémon. By now you should have a strong collection of both types, but if not you’ll find plenty of Poison Type Pokémon in Route 14.
Haunter, Weepinbell, and Skorupi are three types of Poison Type Pokémon you’ll find in Route 14.
Gym #7: Anistar City
We’re nearing the end of our Pokémon journey and if you’ve been thorough enough you should have plenty of Pokémon to defeat the penultimate Gym Leader.
Anistar City is the home to Pokémon Gym Leader, Olympia, and if the confusing nature of this mysterious Gym hasn’t taken it’s toll on your Pokémon, Olympia might as s/he specialises in Psychic-Type Pokémon.
Psychic-Type Pokémon are vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark Type Pokémon, a few examples of Pokémon you could use for this Gym are:
Found in Route 16: Skorupi
Found in Route 17: Sneasel
Also, you should have a good collection of Bug, Ghosts, and Dark Type from previous Routes.
Gym #8: Snowbelle City
Here we are, the final trainer. Without revealing too much on the game itself we’ll dive right in. In Snowbelle City you’ll find the Pokémon Gym Leader, Wulfric. This mean looking Gym leader specialises in Ice-Type Pokémon and if there’s one thing that Ice doesn’t mix with, that’s Fire.
Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel Type are the best type of Pokémon to use in order to defeat this Pokémon Trainer. By now you should have enough of each type in order to Defeat Wulfric, but if you’re short I’d advise you head back a few Routes such as Route 11 for Fighting type like Hariyama, Throh or Sawk. Route 13 has the Fire-Type Pokémon Slugma and Route 18 has Torkoal and Heatmor.
So there you have it! Hopefully I’ve provided you some short snippets of information on how to beat the Pokémon Gym Leaders in Pokémon X and Y. If you have any more hints to add to this information feel free to leave a comment below!
