Making your home energy efficient keeps your family comfortable while at the same time helping to reduce your energy costs. Preventing drafts from occurring is a key part of any strategy for achieving energy efficiency. One location where drafts can occur is your exterior doors. You can block the drafts by installing weather stripping around the door frame and a door sweep on the bottom of the door.
Hold the weather stripping against the top jamb, with the wood part facing out and the foam or rubber part up against the surface of the door. Drive nails partway through the weather stripping and into the jamb to keep it in place.
Test the seal of the weather stripping by opening and closing the door to check the fit. Adjust the weather stripping if needed. Drive the nails all the way in once the weather stripping is in the correct position.
Drill pilot holes into the door at the location of the screw holes. Screw the sweep to the door.
