Installing a deadbolt lock is not especially difficult, but if you are not careful with your measurements, you may wind up having to drill some extra holes which can look bad on your door. With this project we will be installing the deadbolt assembly along with the plate that holds the deadbolt mechanism in place. After you have installed the deadbolt, you should install the strike plate into the door frame.
Determine where you would like to have the deadbolt assembly installed on your door and make a mark at that point with a marking pencil. Lowes.com suggests putting the deadbolt lock approximately 6 inches above the doorknob.
Drill the deadbolt hole into the door using a deadbolt auger. The size of the auger needed will be outlined by the installation kit.
Install the deadbolt assembly into the door and through the latch assembly.
