Making a template of your counter top is not hard; in fact, it is simple to do. It is important to make a template so you will have a guide with precise measurements that will eliminate the need to measure everything twice, write the figures down and keep track of what goes where. All you do is trace cut-out areas of your old counter top and transfer them to the new counter top.
Remove everything from inside the cabinets. Also remove the drawers and doors from the cabinets.
Lay these sheets of taped poster board or template plastic over the counter top. If using the clear plastic template, it is easy to see the pattern that you will need to mark. Simply trace along the outside edge of the counter top and cut this section first.
Lay this template onto the new counter top making sure you have it facing the right direction. Tape it in place and transfer the pattern to the new piece of counter top.
