Get a smooth finish on plaster with this easy to follow guide. When you are redecorating your home, you may try plastering over unsightly holes and damaged areas on your walls. However, applying plaster can also make the walls appear less smooth and finished. One solution is to smooth the plaster walls using a few basic tools that can be found at any hardware or home improvement store. Employing these tools enables you to regain the smooth walls you used to have without spending a lot of money to have the walls professionally resurfaced.
Step Two
Sand the wall using fine-grain sandpaper, which will make the wall feel sleek and soft to the touch. Move the sandpaper in the same small, circular motions over the entire wall.
Step Three
Buff the wall using a hand buffer, which will remove very small imperfections and will leave the wall extremely smooth. Allow the buffer to move around the entire wall for 10 minutes.
Step Four
Vacuum the wall and surrounding flooring using a shop vacuum, which will eliminate any dust and debris left behind from the sanding and buffing.
Step Five
Fill a paint tray with matte latex wall paint, and coat a paint roller in the wall paint.
Step Six
Apply the paint onto the smoothed wall using vertical roller strokes. Cover the entire wall with an even layer of matte latex paint. Allow the paint to dry for six hours.
