When we go shopping for tools or equipment for our homes, our first thought might not be “I need an air compressor!” However, while they often go forgotten, they have a lot of important uses. While some of them are more recreational than others, I don’t think this diminishes their value!
In this article, I will describe several of these different uses. For myself, I find that practical explanations and demonstrations are the best learning tool, so hopefully this helps you as well! Continue reading for some of the uses for tankless air compressors and why you might want to consider one.
Healthcare
Now, this one might take you by surprise. However, think about all of the different equipment used in health care services that we don’t really understand. The primary application of these in this field is in dental work. In this case, dentists or assistants utilize the compressed air to clean teeth.
In hospitals, doctors or nurses may use them for giving patients oxygen. Either way, it’s a critical part of maintaining health and saving lives. How fascinating! You can read more about this on this page.
Recreation
I know – this one might seem like mood whiplash compared to the one above. Hear me out, though. Recreational use is nothing to sneer at, since many activities these air compressors are used in are relaxing and fun. They are also great opportunities to spend time with friends or loved ones!
The first I’ll touch upon is paintball. These tankless contraptions are inside of a lot of paintball guns! I know that personally, I love having a weekend get together once a month with my friends for a paint battle. It’s fun and helps us vent some frustrations – talk about two birds with one stone.
Of course, another activity you can engage in is spray painting or airbrushing. Small versions of air compressors are in many air brushes machines. You can use traditional paint for changing things in your home or yard or for painting murals. I painted several lawn chairs orange and red one year, for example.
A lot of makeup artists utilize airbrushing techniques. These are cosmetic grade and less powerful than other compressors, but I still think they are worth mentioning. Notably, this is not always for recreation, but also for supporting their livelihoods. I included it in this section because I usually use my airbrush makeup for fun.
Scuba Diving
I know, this one is kind of out there as well. However, the technology used in diving tanks involves air compressors. In fact, it’s the only way that diving is possible!
I’m thankful that is it, as it’s one of the most fun and rewarding activities out there (if you aren’t scared of the ocean). Some of my favourite memories are from scuba diving with sharks!
Inflating
In some ways, this is a no brainer. Of course these devices can help with this. They can inflate tires for bicycles and vehicles, balloons, air beds, or anything else that could need it. If you’re curious about it you can read more on it here: https://www.engineeringchoice.com/air-compressor/.
Fountains
We all love the beauty of a fountain, especially on a warm spring or summer day. Going to the park and enjoying some of the interactive types are always fun, especially if you bring your family. Children love them, naturally.
However, they can also be a beautiful part of a yard or garden. Many public gardens have some variety of them, and I have even seen wishing fountains in shopping malls. I can vividly recall walking through the local mall on Sundays with my grandparents, squeezing my eyes shut, and throwing in a penny in the hopes of my wish coming true!
They are made possible with this equipment. So many childhood hopes and dreams are reliant upon them. A lot of koi ponds or other places for fountains as well. I had never even realized.
Cooling
Is your refrigerator running? If so, you have this equipment to thank. Most modern cooling and chilling in refrigerators, freezers, and even air conditioning use compressed air. It is the most efficient and fast method for this.
Engines
Vehicle engines use compressed air to heat up and cool down when necessary. Additionally, they are used in the brakes of some larger vehicles like a train or a large truck. Even a lot of rides in amusement parks use them!
Cleaning
I know many of these uses are rather heavy duty, so you might not think about these devices for this purpose. Pressure washing, though, uses this technology. If you are renovating something, you might have a lot of sawdust or water around. A compressor can help you to quickly remove this – just make sure you are wearing personal protection equipment.
Construction
This is probably the most versatile application of this technology. As far as tankless air compressor options go, you could use them for sustaining a construction site that is far away from electricity. This might sound crazy but trust me – it’s true!
They are usually powered by diesel or petrol in these cases. Many tools on these sites use them, such as drills, compactors, and hammers. This is also the case for personal use in a workshop – power tools in general tend to utilize them as an efficient source of power.
Farming and Agriculture
Another way they are used is in the fields of farming and agriculture. Many farmers use them as they water their crops, since they certainly aren’t going around carrying a watering can to water them individually. As far as other applications go, they can be a part of greenhouse ventilation systems and the transportation of heavy feed into silos.
Conclusions
As you can see, air compressors are a surprisingly omnipresent part of our lives. So many people use them each day, even without realizing it. I can hardly imagine a summer without air conditioning, for example. And trying to store food without refrigerators and freezers? Forget about it!
You can find portable and tankless options if you find that you need one. If you want to get into airbrushing for example or are going to build a fountain in your yard, just do your research. Find ones that are applicable to what you plan to do with them. You wouldn’t want to have one for a fountain hooked up to a cosmetic machine for example – imagine the mess.
This technology is helpful and versatile. I’m sure if you explore, you can find even more ways they are applied! Good luck in your explorations, and I hope you learned something today!
