Getting the fastest Internet service is not always a black and white issue. Companies that offer Internet service can have different levels of service and different speed capabilities in different areas of the country. This means that your friend in another state could use an Internet service provider and get lots of speed, but that same provider might not be able to offer you the same level of service. Investigate your options to find the fastest Internet service in your area.
Ask about the actual Internet speed. Speed is measured in kilobytes per second, or Kbps, or megabytes per second, or Mbps, and 1 Mbps is equivalent to approximately 1,000 Kbps. Fixed wireless, for example, can reach speeds of 256 Kbps to 10 Mbps. DSL connections can range from 128 Kbps to 1.54 Mbps, and a cable connection can reach speeds from 500 Kbps to 2 Mbps.
