Do you like to look for lost treasures? If so, a metal detector will do! However, don’t break your wallet by purchasing a high end metal detector. Learn how you can now make your own homemade metal detector!
Step One
The first step in making your metal detector is to obtain a CD case and remove the black insert that holds the CD in place. Set it aside for later use.
Step Two
Grab your AM/FM radio and measure and cut a velcro strap that will go on the back middle region of your radio. Stick one side of the velcro to the back of the radio. Then stick another piece of velcro to the inside, left middle of the CD case. You can now mount the radio.
Step Three
Grab the calculator and do the same thing by mounting it with a velcro strap centered at the calculator. Mount it on the right portion of the inside of the CD case. Make sure that both the calculator and the AM/FM radio are facing upright.
Step Four
Make sure the radio is set on the AM band and set it to the highest frequency. If there happens to be a broadcasting station at the highest frequency, you only need to get it as close as you can. You should only hear static.
Step Five
Next, turn on the calculator. Then, try to close the CD case until you start hearing a loud noise from the radio. This noise is the electromagnetic frequency that the radio is picking up from the calculator. Slowly open up the CD case until you can barely hear the loud tone.
Step Six
Now you're all done! Start moving your new, homemade metal detectors near metal and you should start to hear loud noises that signify that a piece of metal is present somewhere close!
