Leather is a popular choice for vehicle upholstery. The common misconception is that leather stays hot in the summer heat. This misconception stems from synthetic leather, which does become warm when the temperature rises. However, real leather is a breathable material that adjusts to your specific body temperature. Unlike other fiber upholstery, leather does not trap dust and dirt, making it hygienic and easy to clean. Unfortunately, leather is expensive and can become ripped, cracked and scratched. Replacing damaged leather car seats or hiring a professional leather restorer can be quite expensive. Fortunately, you can repair your leather car seats with the help of a repair kit.
Wipe the damaged area of the leather seat with a lint-free cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol. Allow the seats to air-dry before continuing.
Apply the repair compound over the damaged leather. Use the plastic spatula that came included with the kit to spread and smooth the compound out evenly. Let the compound sit and dry on the leather for one hour. The compound will be tacky but not dried completely.
