Buttercream filling is a soft, tasty way to join a layer cake together. Two versions are provided here, one is plain, while the other has a few additional flavors to flavor it up a little.
Add the icing sugar, milk and vanilla. Mix through well.
Check the consistency. If it's not smooth enough, add a little more milk or sugar until it's of a consistency you're seeking.
Use a butter knife or palette knife to spread on the base layer of a cake. Spread evenly and right out to the edges. Finish up by placing the top layer on the cake.
Method 2 of 2 : Place the butter in a mixing bowl. Beat until smooth and fluffy, using a wooden spoon.
Add the icing sugar, sugar and cocoa powder. Mix through well.
Add a few drops of brandy, rum or substitute. Mix well.
