The days when breakfast was a bowl of cornflakes or a plate of toast are long gone. Today, when it comes to food, variety is where it’s at. And, as just about every doctor will tell you, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, why not change things up and start the morning with a hearty burrito? And, to ensure you keep healthy, why not make it a veggie burrito? Your body will thank you as much as your taste-buds!
Step One
If you're going to indulge in a burrito while watching breakfast TV or catching the train to work, it might help to know what you're eating. Mexican in origin, the burrito is a flour tortilla wrap loaded with guacamole, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, rice, cheese and a variety of meats. Filling and delicious, burritos provide just the sorts of things your body needs when it first wakes up: carbohydrates and protein.
Step Two
Breakfast burritos differ slightly from the more traditional kind, in the sense they generally contain the kinds of food you'd see on the table in the morning, such as bacon and scrambled eggs, But, if you're someone who prefers to avoid animal products, all is not lost. More people are turning to vegetarian burritos. And many of those same people are championing the tofu burrito. Basically, tofu is a soft, cheese-like product made from soybeans that makes an excellent alternative to fat-filled meat. But, you want more than just tofu to keep you happy.
Step Three
When it comes to the ultimate veggie breakfast burrito, you can't go wrong by complementing your tofu with fried onions, red peppers, and a topping of hot sauce. And, if you're in need of something really filling, cram into that tasty wrap a good dollop of black beans, a noted delicacy when it comes to perfecting the breakfast burrito. The good news is that you don't have to be Gordon Ramsay to throw all this together.
Step Four
Place the onions and the peppers into a frying pan containing both heated olive oil and minced garlic. Cook the onions and peppers for two-to-three minutes on medium-to-high and don't forget to give the concoction an occasional stir. Then, it's time for the black beans, which should also get the frying pan treatment, for around three minutes. After that, there's one final step: carefully spread your gourmet grub across the flattened tortilla and carefully fold it over. Hey presto: you're good to start the day in style!
