Sing in tune with this step by step guide. There are a number of reasons a singer might not sound very good. One of the biggest culprits is not singing in tune. Like any instrument, the voice has to be tuned up. Learning to sing in tune takes time and practice but isn’t particularly difficult if you have a good ear. Most people pick it up naturally, but here are some tips to speed the process along.
Sing in Tune with a Piano – Play a key on the piano. Make sure it’s not too high or low for your voice. Middle C is a good place to start. If this is too high or too low try and octave lower or higher. Try to sing the note along with the piano.
Listen to your note and the piano’s note together. If you’re in tune, you should here a pleasant smooth sound as you match up with the piano. If your voice has a grating or grinding quality you’re out of tune. Sing the note a little lower or higher until you blend in with the piano and you’re singing the same note in tune.
Rehearse a C major scale up the keyboard and back playing each note: CDEFGABC and back. Sing along with each note and make sure every note is in tune by listening carefully.
Choose individual random notes on the piano and sing in tune with them.
Play chords. Play a simple major triad like C major: CEG. Sing each note in the chord: C, then E then G. Make sure all sound pleasantly in tune.
Sing a note in the chord, while playing the other notes in the chord. For example, play E and G but sing the C yourself. If you’re in tune it will sound nice with the other notes.
