Partition walls are interior walls built to separate large spaces into smaller rooms. These walls do not support the structure of the house or support any weight other than their own, so you can remove them if you wish to expand available space. Removal of a partition wall is dirty but quick work, with no special tools necessary for completion. It’s also simple enough that it can be done successfully without harm to adjacent surfaces.
Turn off electricity running to the room at the breaker box. Cover door or hallways leading into the room with a sheet of plastic to prevent dust from exiting into adjoining rooms. Remove any furnishings or carpet from the room or cover with drop cloths. Open the windows leading to the room for ventilation. Put on a pair of heavy work gloves, safety goggles and a face mask for protection during the removal process.
