Want to make some extra money while at home? Or do you want to cut down on commuting expenses and make a living from the comfort of your home? Working from home has become more and more accessible to all, with plenty of opportunities available for anyone and everyone to boost their income or make a secure living from home.
Create an online store
Magento eCommerce agency, Ad Lab recommends creating an online store to start selling your products and services. If you have a hobby and you love to gift your handmade products to your friend and family, why not start making a profit and actually selling your products?
Creating an online store couldn’t be easier! The team at Ad Lab recommend Magento and WordPress for eCommerce stores. Both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages, so choosing the right depends on your eCommerce needs and requirements.
It’s important to create a user-friendly website that will attract customers and showcase your products in the best way possible. For some inspiration, discover Ad Lab’s Awwwards portfolio, where you can see some of their award-winning websites.
Once you’ve created your online store, it’s time to drive traffic and gain visibility. Get your online store on the top of Google’s search results page by running Google Ads, promoting your store on social media or even make the most out of LinkedIn with an embellished profile, like this one from Ad Lab’s director David Newman.
If you need help figuring out how to use Google Ads, the team at Ad Lab recommend learning the ins and outs of Google Ads by doing the free training at the Google Skillshop. Ad Lab became a certified Google Partner after completing the Google Ads courses.
Start a blog
On a recent blog post, Motherhood the Real Deal shared some ways to make extra money when you are a stay-at-home parent, with one of them being starting a blog and monetising it. She said, “feeling like sharing your ideas, thoughts or anything else with others? Why not start a blog? Creating a blog is a great way to find likeminded people that enjoy the same things as you plus, a great side hustle to make some extra money.”
There are many ways to monetise blogs, from running ads and partnering up with brands for sponsorships to affiliate marketing and selling the skills you’ve acquired while blogging to others. For instance, you can earn between £20 – £100 per article for writing on other peoples sites.
Affiliate marketing
You can take advantage of affiliate marketing even if you don’t have a blog. You might have a medium to large following in another platform, so simply share products you love with your audience via an affiliate link to make money every time someone purchases those products. As My Fashion Life explains, affiliate marketing, such as the Amazon affiliate program, “allows you to earn a percentage on purchases made from Amazon products which are featured or recommended on your website.”
Virtual assistant
According to the Guardian, “If you are good at filing and managing tasks, and know someone who isn’t, why not offer to share your expertise with them for a small consideration? Being organised is a valuable skill, and whether it’s for a small company or a friend there may be more of a market for this than meets the eye.”
Even if you personally don’t know someone who would need this service, it doesn’t mean that other people out there wouldn’t need it. Plenty of busy professionals would appreciate the extra help answering emails or simply updating calendars.
Tutor
Another great way to use your skills is to become an online tutor, mentions Lylia Rose in a recent blog post. With many parents struggling to juggle home schooling their children on top of everything else, “why not offer your services to tutor students online in whatever topic you’re an expert at?” asks Lylia.
