Your credit score and credit history has a huge impact on your financial decisions as anyone applying for a loan or a mortgage will know.
Of course its difficult to be able to improve and nurture your credit score if you do not know what it is. You’ve probably all heard about the new FREE trials you can get (and you can actually make some money with cashback on those) but there are a number of new solutions that are completely FREE for life (they make it pay by offering carefully selected credit card and loan solutions that earn them money from the relevant providers, but of course there is no obligation). Here’s the run down of the main ones available.
Noddle
This is a trading name of Callcredit who are one of the UK’s three credit reference agencies. The service will give you a credit report and credit score, updated every month. To sign up, all you need is a few personal details to identify the correct report, your address and a debit or credit card (this is simply used to verify you as a bona fide person).
Credit Club by MoneySavingExpert.com
This is a relatively new service offering by MoneySavingExpert.com (of Martin Lewis fame). It uses Experian data, who are one of the 3 in UK credit reference agencies so a good idea to also register for as different lenders use different credit reference agencies. The signup process is quite straightforward (rather than using a card details to verify you, it asks you to identify particular credit accounts on your record). The service does not provide you with a complete credit report from Experian but the score gives you a good indication as to your credit worthiness.
ClearScore
ClearScore uses information from Equifax. Again, the service is completely free and the signup process straightforward. Once a month you will receive an updated credit report and score.
