Knowing how to repair a timer on a washing machine will save money and frustration. Fortunately for the do-it-yourself homeowner, the timer is quite accessible. The homeowner will need the owners’ manual for their particular model of washing machine. The Maytag washer (used as an example here) is similar to most other brands, however there may be variances in how the control panel is removed.
7 Always turn the power off to appliances before repairing them.
Remove the screws that connect the front of the control panel to the back of the panel using a screwdriver. Rotate the front control panel forward, revealing the switches and wiring inside.
Connect the wiring harness by pushing it into place on the timer until it snaps in. Attach the mounting screws with a screwdriver.
