Children love to play in the sand, and you can make a custom sand pit for your child. Doing so allows you to control the kind of sand the children play with and ensure that it is free of bacteria or harmful chemicals. You can customize the sand pit by painting it a bright color or writing your child’s name on it. Make a cover for the sand pit to prevent it from getting wet in the rain or being used as a litter box by neighborhood cats.
6 Make a plywood sheet cover or use a tarp to cover the sand pit when it is not in use. Ensure that screws are driven all the way in and that splinters have been removed.
Measure the exact length of the sand pit sides. Use the saw to cut the decking boards to size. Drill holes into the decking boards and screw them to the decking posts so that they meet at right angles.
Use sand paper to remove splinters from the wooden frame. Treat the wood with stain or paint as desired.
