Plex Media Server is a free computer application that allows you to connect your computer to a television and stream media from sources such as your iTunes library or online sources, such as Hulu and YouTube. If you do not have an Internet-enabled television, Plex Media Server can allow you to essentially use your computer as the television’s Internet connection without spending money on an expensive software solution. Download Plex for free from the official Plex Media Server website.
Step One
Navigate in a Web browser to plexapp.com. Scroll to the bottom of the page, hover the mouse pointer over the Windows logo and click the “Download” button.
Step Two
Click the “Download” link on the next page and save the file “Plex-Media-Server-v0.9.207-en-US.exe” to the desktop. Note that the version number was current at the time of publication and is subject to change.
Step Three
Double-click the file “Plex-Media-Server-v0.9.207-en-US.exe” on the desktop when the download is complete. A window titled “Plex Media Server Setup” will appear.
Step Four
Click “Next.”
Step Five
Examine the Plex Media Server license agreement. Click the “I accept the terms in the license agreement” check box and then click “Next.”
Step Six
Click the “Change” button to select a folder on your computer in which to install Plex Media Server, or click “Next” to use the default folder of “C:Program FilesPlexPlex Media Server.”
Step Seven
Click the “Install” button. The installation utility will install Plex Media Server on your computer using the settings that you indicated.
Step Eight
Click the “Finish” button when the installation process is complete. Launch Plex Media Server by clicking the “Plex Media Server” icon under the Start menu folder of the same name.
