I love making my own booze infusions and make lots of various seasonal concoctions such as blackberry and vanilla vodka, elderberry, sloe and cardamom liqueur and most recently greengage gin but it was only last week that I decided to have a go at making my own ‘extra ginny’ gin, and having tasted it I’m now a total convert.
Artisan gin is big business these days with small distilleries making bolder tasting gins infused with interesting botanical combinations, but they don’t come cheap. Now I love some of these lovingly made tipples but I wanted to create my own version for a fraction of the price, and one that I had customised with my own flavour profile. At the heart of it, gin is simply vodka that has been aromatised with various botanicals so you could start with a vodka or if you prefer just build on a ready made gin.
