Peda is a traditional Indian sweet (mithai), often enjoyed during Diwali celebrations. There are many possible flavors of peda, as well as different dairy bases for forming this sweet. A selection of peda recipes is provided here for you to choose from, most of which use the stovetop but also a microwave method.
Step One
Gather the ingredients. You’ll need: 1 stick of butter, softened to room temperature, 1 can or tin of sweetened, condensed milk, 1 1/2 cups of milk powder, 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder.
Step Two
Place the butter and condensed milk in a mixing bowl. Mix together until combined.
Step Three
Put the mixture into the microwave. Microwave for 2 minutes or until the mixture bubbles.
Step Four
Remove from the microwave. Add the milk powder and stir through.
Step Five
Return to the microwave. Heat for 1 minute.
Step Six
Remove and stir. Heat for 1 minute more, then stir in the cardamom powder.
Step Seven
Allow the dough to cool sufficiently to handle. Roll into small balls.
Step Eight
Press down on a ball with a spool. This will both flatten the ball and create a pattern on it.
Step Nine
Remove the spool. The sweet is completed. Let it cool, then serve. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
