As summer is almost upon us, it is time to make sure that your garden is in shape for the season. You want to make the most of your outdoor space while the weather is pleasant, and so you need to make it an area that you can enjoy. If, over the last few months, you have let the space become overgrown and messy, it is time to sort it out. If you spend a couple of weeks sorting things out now, you will find that you have an entire summer to enjoy the great outdoors. So, where should you begin? Well, follow this five-step guide and you will have a beautiful garden in no time at all.
Step 1: Clear out any rubbish
If you have started to let your outdoor space go, you might find that it needs a little attention. If your neighbours have thrown rubbish over the fence into your garden, for example, you need to clean it up. You might have loads of old junk lying around the place, which is why you should hire a rubbish removal company to help you. It is crucial that you clean up the area before you do anything else. That way, you have a clean space to revamp.
Step 2: Get rid of pesky weeds (fast)
If you haven’t tended to your garden in a while, you might find that you have pesky weeds everywhere. You can get weed killer online in bulk, and so that might be the best option for you. When you use the killer, you need to ensure that you don’t get it on any of the other plants as it will kill them as well. If you don’t want to use harsh chemicals on your land, you can get organic killers. They are not as effective as chemical formulas, but some work quite well. Failing those ideas, you can always tend to the weeds by hand, but this is a slower solution.
Step 3: Create a herb garden
Now is an ideal time to start planting a herb garden. You should first ensure that you have enough space in your garden for a patch. Your plants will need space to grow, or they will die before long. You can get some compost at a local DIY or home store. Try to choose one that says it has plant food in it. That way, your plants will get an extra boost. Once you have a herb garden, you will see what a pleasure it is to grow your food.
Step 4: Choose appropriate furniture
Garden furniture can look a little tacky if you get it wrong. You need somewhere to sit and relax in your garden, though, which is why you should look for pieces that suit your space. For example, if you have a small garden, you might want to get a bench for it. The bench won’t take up much space, but you will still have somewhere you can sit in the sun. If you are feeling creative, you could even try to make the bench yourself.
Step 5: Chop down large trees
Massive trees might look attractive, but they block the sun from your garden and prevent other plants from growing. This project tends to be quite a messy one, and so you will need help getting rid of the rubbish. If you are just removing some of the main branches, you might be able to do it yourself. If you want to take down the entire tree, though, you might need some help.
Step 6: Replant your flowerbeds
Most people plant their flowers and then never do anything about them after that. If you haven’t tended to your garden in a while, you might need to replant it altogether. It might sound like a lot of hassle to dig up your beds, but it will be worth it in the end. If the ground is old, you could also replace it with new compost to help things grow.
Once you have followed these steps, you will find that your garden looks as good as new, just in time for the summer!
