Sand pits are great for keeping children entertained during the warmer months. You can control the kind of sand the children play with and ensure that it is free of bacteria or harmful chemicals. You can customize the sand pit by painting it a bright color or writing your child’s name on it. Make a cover for the sand pit to prevent it from getting wet in the rain or being used as a litter box by neighborhood cats.
Use the edging tool and shovel to remove the lawn to a depth of about 50mm. Level the bottom of the pit area. Hammer in the decking posts until they protrude by only the width of two of the decking boards.
Measure 4 90-degree triangles from the plywood sheet. The two short sides of each triangle should measure 35mm each. Cut out the four triangles, drill holes and screw them into the corners of the sand pit as seats.
