Whether you find yourself in a pinch in the wild or you just like the idea of being self-sufficient, making your own fishing hooks is a simple task. Fish hooks can be created from such items as thorns, barbed wire or pieces of fence, just to name a few.
Using your pocket knife, whittle a dried out branch from a hardwood tree down to size. Make sure you don't whittle it too thin, otherwise the hook will break while you're using it, and you'll lose your catch. Use the tip of your knife to drill a hole for your fishing line into the end of the hook.
Use the hook from a dangling earring to create a makeshift fish hook. Remove the earring from the hook, using needle-nose pliers if necessary. Draw a piece of fishing line through the hole that held the earring and knot it into place.
