For the most part, purchasing and installing a home tanning bed is as simple as having a tanning bed delivered, plugging it in and tanning. However, before you plug in your tanning bed, there are a few things you need to check to ensure that the tanning bed will work properly in your home.
Step One
Hire an electrician to come in and test the voltage with a volt meter, if you're not experienced with electrical work. If you have electrical experience you can purchase your own volt meter from home supply stores for minimal cost. Most tanning beds are compatible with 120 V, which is common in most houses.
Step Two
Purchase a buck and boost transformer if the voltage differs. A transformer makes small adjustments to the tanning bed and alters the voltage so it can be compatible with different voltage sources.
Step Three
Dedicate a separate circuit for the tanning bed. Because there is a high amount of power running through a tanning bed when it's operating, you could easily blow a circuit if the tanning bed circuit is connected with other household electrical outlets or appliances.
Step Four
Arrange for inside delivery of the tanning bed. A tanning bed is very heavy and requires the lifting and moving of more than two people. If you just have the bed delivered to your house, it will most likely be placed in your garage leaving you to move it to the correct room. If you pay the additional small fee, the delivery people will move it to the proper room.
