Chrome trim is found on many different vehicles at varying price points. It most often runs along the side panels from front to back and on the bumpers or fenders of the car. Over time, the chrome will become worn and need to be restored. Bringing back the shine to your car’s chrome trim is a matter of following a few simple procedures that can easily be completed in just a few minutes.
Remove all the rust spots from the chrome. Rub steel wool over the oxidized spots in a circular motion, pushing down firmly so the rust can be worked out of the metal.
Add water to the steel wool soap and rub it over the rust to clean the area. Work in small circular motions from side to side, as in Step 1, until all of the rusted areas have been covered.
Scrub out all rust in small cracks and crevices using a toothbrush dipped in chrome polish. Rinse the area thoroughly with water.
Polish the chrome trim. Dab a little chrome polish onto a soft cotton rag and clean the surface thoroughly until the chrome has been restored.
Wipe the area dry with a clean, soft cloth and check to make sure there are no rust spots remaining.
