Central air conditioners can leak for different reasons. Clogged drains are one of the common causes for an air conditioner to leak. The drain pipes can become clogged with sludge, dust or mold. You can attempt to clean the drains or call in a professional AC technician. Hiring an AC technician is expensive but a quick way to stop the leak. Unclogging the drains is necessary for stopping the leaking and to prevent the air conditioner from completely shutting down. Leaving the drains clogged can also lead to irreversible damage and having to replace expensive parts.
Open the air conditioner panel and look for the drain pan. The drain pan will contain water if clogged drains are really the problem. Remove the pan from the AC panel and clean it with warm water. Completely dry the drain before putting it back into the AC panel.
Re-connect the panel and connect the air conditioner back to the main line. After re-connecting the central AC, run the air conditioner for awhile to check for leakage.
