Protecting your expensive electronic items, such as iPads, from scratches and dings is essential to retaining their value and functionality. Cases and covers are available for purchase, but they are often pricey and don’t come in a very wide variety of designs. Making your own cover for your iPad allows you to use fabric in your favorite colors and designs. Make one quilted cover for yourself or give one as a gift.
Lay out the sections. Make two stacks, each with the outer fabric pattern side down followed by the batting centered in the middle with the liner on top of the stack with the side you want showing facing up. Pin the three layers of each stack together around the outer edge of the fabric. One stack will have a 1-inch fabric overhang.
Remove the pins. Turn the cover inside out so the outer fabric is now on the outside. Fold the edge of the fabric of the flap under and sew along the edge of the flap to prevent fraying. Cut a piece of hook and loop tape 8 inches long. Place one side of the tape along the underside of the flap. Place the other side of the tape along the top edge of the case so when you close the flap the tape pieces meet. Add a couple stitches to more securely affix the hook and loop tape if you wish.
