If you have an iPhone but no longer want to sync it with iTunes, you will need to do what is known as jailbreaking. Jailbreaking is a process of hacking your device to get around Apple’s restrictions, which include downloading iTunes to your iPhone, iPod, Mac computer and other Apple-branded gadgets. Thousands of iPhone users have downloaded and utilized Jailbreak, and you can join them. Once you do, you will no longer have to deal with iTunes whenever you upgrade your iPhone.
Navigate to Blackra1n.com to download Jailbreak to your computer. Run the .exe file when you are prompted.
Click on the "make it ra1n" button. You will then see a message that reads "entering recovery." If you are using Windows 7 or Vista on your computer, you will have to run this in compatibility mode and as an Administrator.
Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB connector. The device will reboot, showing an image of Jailbreak's inventor and a popup asking you to donate. Click on "OK" to close the prompt.
Locate the "blackra1n" icon on your iPhone. Tap the icon to launch the program.
Choose an installer program in the application to download. Blackra1n offers programs called "Cydia," "Rock" and "Icy." Any of these will work well for what you want to do with your iPhone. Blackra1n will relaunch the iPhone springboard when the download is complete.
Check for iPhone updates. You will now be able to upgrade without including iTunes. Use Cydia, Rock or Icy to browse, search and install apps to your device.
